House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has stated that the voters’ rejection of Representative Liz Cheney’s (R-Wyo.) participation in the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol should be interpreted as a vote against Cheney’s candidacy in Tuesday’s primary.

McCarthy, who was in Wyoming on Monday campaigning for Cheney’s opponent Harriett Hageman, told Fox News that he doesn’t expect a come-from-behind victory for the congresswoman, who was a member of his House leadership team until she became one of the conference’s most vocal critics of former President Trump.

In addition to saying, “I think it’s going to be a referendum on the January 6 Committee,” McCarthy predicted, “I don’t think that she’s going to win.”

The Republican from California claimed that Cheney’s attention has been diverted from the issues facing her district because of her work on the select committee. Specifically, he claimed that Cheney has been fixated on “one individual” recently.

According to him, “the principal philosophy” of the Republican Party is “less government, an idea of freedom, and the aspect that there’s the concepts of a country that was conceived in liberty and dedicated proposition.”

Is it just me, or has she been a perfect fit for that role for quite some time now? This was posed by Fox News’ Rich Edson.

McCarthy responded, “I think our whole focus has been different.” When discussing her district, the author says, “Our entire focus has been against one individual, whether she has information or not.”

Polls show that Cheney’s Trump-backed challenger is pulling ahead, so she’s up against it in trying to keep her congressional seat.

Vice Chair of the January 6th Committee is Cheney, one of the ten Republicans in the House who voted to impeach Trump for his role in the Capitol insurrection.

McCarthy told Edson that the Republican Party will regain control of the House of Representatives in the upcoming midterm elections this November.

It’s going to be me as Speaker,” McCarthy predicted confidently.
