The former CIA director suggested Donald Trump should be executed if he has illegally retained nuclear documents at his Mar-a-Lago home.

On Thursday night, MSNBC contributor and historian Michael Beschloss tweeted about historical figures who were executed for sharing U.S. nuclear secrets with foreign governments; a former CIA director retweeted the post to show his approval.

Jerry Dunleavy, a conservative commentator, accused Beschloss of “suggesting that Trump should be executed” because it was published shortly after a Washington Post article speculated that the FBI had raided Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in search of missing nuclear documents.

While Attorney General Merrick Garland was mum on the subject during his address to the nation, the Washington Post attempted to offer more details in an exclusive on Thursday afternoon about what the FBI was searching for at Mar-a-Lago on Monday.

A RAID BY THE FBI ON TRUMP IS THE LATEST INDICATION OF THE DEMOCRATS’ WAR ON THE RULE OF LAW.

The statement became a trending topic on Twitter and caused widespread outrage online.

A few hours after the exclusive report’s claim, Beschloss offered some historical context for what happens to those who illegally retain and pass off nuclear information to non-U.S. entities. He tweeted a picture of Soviet spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg with the caption, “Rosenbergs were convicted for giving U.S. nuclear secrets to Moscow, and were executed June 1953.”

A former head of the NSA and the CIA, Michael Hayden, noticed the tweet. Hayden responded to Beschloss’s post; he is a retired four-star Air Force general who served in the intelligence community under Presidents Obama, Bush, and Clinton.

It “sounds about right,” the former CIA director said in a tweet.

Retired general and former NSA director Michael Hayden was criticized by Jerry Dunleavy of the Washington Examiner for “suggesting that Trump should be executed.”

After a judge sets a deadline for the Department of Justice to unseal the Mar-a-Lago search warrant, Trump will announce his decision.

In his post, Dunleavy said, “NBD [no big deal] just a former NSA & CIA Director (who also was among the dozens of ex-intel officials who signed the infamous October 2020 Hunter Biden laptop letter) out here suggesting that Trump should be executed.”

In a letter titled “Hunter Biden laptop letter,” “over 50 former U.S. intelligence officials” claimed that the rumored laptop containing dirt on the personal life and business dealings of the son of then-presidential candidate Joe Biden was actually Russian “disinformation.”

It has since been established, however, that the laptop and its contents pertaining to Hunter Biden are authentic.
