Following the Mar-a-Lago raid, Merrick Garland supported the DOJ and FBI amid a barrage of criticism.

Garland’s remarks come as the FBI is being savaged by Trump and GOP politicians.

The FBI and Justice Department employees are devoted, patriotic public servants, according to Garland.

Attorney General Merrick Garland defended the Justice Department and the FBI on Thursday in the wake of a barrage of criticism over the choice to raid former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.

Garland told reporters at the Justice Department, “I will not remain silent when their integrity is being challenged. The FBI and Justice Department employees are devoted, patriotic public servants.

Garland’s comments come as the FBI is under fire from Trump, his allies, and numerous Republican politicians for their decision to conduct an unprecedented raid on a former president’s property. As the court-ordered search was taking place, Trump verified it and compared the situation to that of “a third-world country.”

The FBI should no longer receive funding, according to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and other far-right lawmakers. The Gestapo, the Nazis’ secret police, was likened by those on the right to federal agents.

Garland disclosed that he personally approved the decision to get an extraordinary search warrant for a former president’s residence during his unexpected news conference. He further stated that the search warrant and the list of items seized by law enforcement are being officially sealed by the Justice Department in court.

The warrant might have been made available to the public, but Trump and his counsel have so far refrained from doing so.
