On August 14, Marsai Martin turned 18, and she celebrated in grand style.

The Black-ish star and aspiring media mogul celebrated his birthday over the weekend with a Shrek-themed bash in Los Angeles, which he dubbed “Marsai’s Far Far Away.” Famous guests included Kelly Rowland, Logan Browning, On My Block’s Jason Genao, Karrueche Tran, Bel-Coco Air’s Jones, Jabari Banks, and Olly Sholotan, JT from City Girls, Skai Jackson, Black-ish star Miles Brown, and This Is Us’ Asante Blackk, as well as social media stars like Khadi Don, LaLa Milan, Laron Hines, and many more.

The majority of guests dressed to impress for the themed party, with some donning their most elaborate ball gowns and others donning outfits more fitting for a fairytale. (Makeup artist Joanna Simkin had to undergo a Maleficent transformation for this.)

The host, Marsai, dressed the part as well, channeling her inner Fiona in a one-of-a-kind creation by Bryon Javar. The actor was seen wearing an emerald green satin dress with crystal embellishments, as posted by Javar himself on Instagram. Accessories such as a padded cape in a darker shade of green, silver strappy heels, and sheer opera gloves adorned with jewels that matched the dress’s embellishments on top rounded out the ensemble. (Like all good princesses do.)

As a final touch, Marsai donned an orange wig with long, wavy bangs to channel Fiona’s signature look and spent at least one day living the life of a redhead. Taking the cape off, Marsai posted additional photos of the outfit to her Instagram account. With the caption, “Thank you God for another year around the sun,” she expressed her gratitude for another rotation of the earth’s sun.

Photos posted to social media show that the event’s decor, including carnival games and food trucks, was just as elaborate as Marsai’s dress. When guests arrived, they were greeted by a “Beware Ogre” sign that looked like it could have been lifted straight from the set of the live-action Shrek movie. The venue was completely covered in an emerald carpet, and the decorations looked like something out of a fairy tale, with giant mushrooms, “creatures” from the woods on stilts, a wishing well, and Shrek graffiti scrawled on the restroom signs.

Marsai’s cake was a three-tiered tower fit for a princess, complete with plenty of candlelight. (It wasn’t a carbon copy of the palace in Far Far Away, but it was still impressive.)

Marsai appears to have swapped out his green outfit for a red one in the middle of the festivities. The star wore a crop top, cropped pants, strappy heels, and a wraparound piece of fabric that draped cape-style around her waist and down the side of her right leg for a monochromatic look that was both appropriate and regal. (As was stated earlier, we are at maximum capacity.)

Marsai Martin, May You Have a Joyous Birthday! Below, you’ll find more photos taken by the partygoers.
