Longshot Rich Strike, the 2022 Kentucky Derby victor, will run in the 2022 Travers Stakes this coming Saturday at Saratoga Race Course, hoping to repeat the success of his father, Keen Ice, who won the race in his heyday. It was one of the biggest upsets in Travers history when 16-1 longshot Keen Ice defeated Triple Crown winner American Pharoah in 2015. His son Rich Strike, who beat 80-1 odds to win the Kentucky Derby, is a 10-1 longshot in Saturday’s Travers Stakes 2022. Runner-up in the Kentucky Derby In the field of eight horses competing in the 2022 Travers Stakes, Epicenter is the 7-5 favorite while Cyberknife is the 7-2 second choice.

The starting gun will fire at 5:44 p.m. ET on June 6, 2022 for the Travers Stakes, which will be run over a distance of 1 1/4 miles. You should consult racing expert and creator of the Beyer Speed Figure Bob Weir before making your own picks in Saturday’s Travers Stakes, as the field is filled with accomplished horses.

Beyer Speed Figure creator and racing insider based in Saratoga Springs, Weir has twice made it to Las Vegas for the National Horseplayers Championship. He has had several days at the track that netted him six figures, the largest of which was a $60,000 Pick 6 at Del Mar in 2014. This time last year, he was on fire. Superfecta in the Belmont Stakes, trifecta in the Risen Star Stakes, Blue Grass Stakes, and Pennsylvania Derby, and exacta in the Sam F. Davis Stakes, Tampa Bay Derby, and Peter Pan Stakes.

Before last year’s Travers was run, he had Essential Quality pegged as the “most likely winner” and had the colt near the top of his wagers.

This year he has been on fire in the pre-Triple Crown races, finishing in the exacta in the Fountain of Youth Stakes and the superfecta in the Blue Grass Stakes. He has also won multiple Pick 4s, including one at Belmont on May 14 for $1,851, as well as the 19-1 Man o’ War Stakes winner, the trifecta in the Pegasus World Cup, the superfecta in the Met Mile, and more. Those who have followed him have risen dramatically.

Best bets for the Travers Stakes

Although he is one of the favorites at 7-2, Weir doesn’t think much of Cyberknife’s chances. Cyberknife just won the Haskell with a Beyer Speed Figure of 102, his best ever. Among the eight horses entered in the 2022 Travers Stakes, he earned the same amount in his last race as the winner of that year’s Travers.

Cyberknife won the Haskell, but Weir doubts the caliber of the competition because the favorite, Jack Christopher, had never raced beyond a mile or beyond two turns. Without a shadow of a doubt, Cyberknife is a maturing three-year-old, but I think this field will prove tougher than the Haskell’s, as Weir put it to SportsLine. Weir has selected three alternate horses to compete with Cyberknife in the 2022 Travers Stakes. Check out the team members right here!

Weir also has a shocking assessment of Rich Strike, who won the Kentucky Derby. And the trainer of Weir’s top pick “seems as confident as ever leading up to this race,” he says. He also has a lot riding on an underdog that has done something no other Travers horse has. Weir is betting on the following horses for the 2022 Travers, and you should, too. Only at SportsLine will he reveal which horses you should bet on.
