The newly announced program will provide funding to local humanitarian groups to cover the costs of providing shelter, food, clothing, transportation, and legal assistance to migrants while they wait to be processed in the district from the Office of the Attorney General. As a form of protest against what they see as the Biden administration’s denial of a border crisis, the governors of Arizona and Texas have brought over 6,000 migrants to Washington.
D.C. Is Ignored by the Department of Defense NATIONAL GUARD REQUESTED IN RESPONSE TO MAYOR BOWSER’S REQUEST TO CONTROL MIGRANT BUSES
State officials in Texas and Arizona have decided to bus asylum seekers to the District of Columbia, creating a humanitarian crisis, according to Attorney General Karl Racine. “The groups and individuals who have taken it upon themselves to provide housing, food, transportation, and legal assistance are understandably strained and simply cannot be expected to bear this responsibility alone.”
There will be a total of $150,000 made available to nonprofits in the area through this grant program, with an allocation of up to $50,000 per group for use within the next two months. The OAG’s Litigation Support Fund, from which grants can be distributed to groups protecting public safety or vulnerable communities, will provide the money.
Almost a week after Mayor Muriel Bowser requested National Guard assistance, the Defense Department denied her request. The state’s top lawyer has blasted the “lack of an efficient and integrated plan for the city.”
