15 people were arrested in Greece for supporting football club Maccabi Tel Aviv

The Israeli soccer fans were arrested in Greece before their match following a security check.

Greece’s THESSALONIKI (AP) — Prior to a Europa Conference League match against Aris, Greek police detained 15 Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters after discovering them in possession of smoke bombs, flares, and firecrackers.

The fans, who ranged in age from 16 to 35, were held by police during a security check prior to Thursday’s game, according to the police. The arrests were made public early on Friday.

Later on Friday, the supporters were supposed to show up in front of a prosecutor. According to authorities, five of the accused are kids.

Aris won the game 2-1, while Maccabi Tel Aviv won the series 3-2.
